Giant Mine Cooperation Agreement

This agreement can be executed in an original which, together, constitutes a single agreement. Contracting parties may rely on copies of this agreement, which are faxed or e-mailed, as if they were original. This agreement may be amended at any time by the written agreement of the parties. The gold was found in 1935 at the Giant Mine site, but a body of commercial ore was not confirmed until 1944, when a massive gold deposit farce was discovered under the Baker Creek Valley. The Burwash, Con Mine and Negus were all developed in the area prior to the production of the Giant Claims. Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines Limited spilled its first gold stone on June 3, 1948, and the mine, between different owners, remained in service until 2004 for more than seven million ounces of gold. Giant Mine is located about five kilometres north of Yellowknife, NT is located within the city limits and in close proximity to the municipalities of Ndilo and Dettah. Located on the north shore of Yellowknife Bay, part of Great Slave Lake and in close proximity to many streams, rivers, ponds and small lakes, the site is considered to be all within the boundaries of the previous lease that was in effect during the mine`s operating period. Two affected areas, located directly outside the rental area, are also considered part of the site. These are the “urban city,” which was removed from the lease in 1999, and a historic deposit area along the North Yellowknife Bay.

Ownership of the mine was owned by a number of companies: Giant Yellowknife Mines, Ltd. (a subsidiary of Falconbridge (1948-86), Pamour (1986-1990), Royal Oak Mines (1990-1999) and Miramar Mining Corporation (1999-2004). When Royal Oak Mines went bankrupt in 1999, the Canadian government became responsible for cleaning up the large mine site and allowed Miramar Mining Corporation to transport ore from the site to its Con Mine mill until the giant mine was finally closed in 2004. Canada or the GNWT (co-supporters) assist the working group in fulfilling its mandate. The Secretariat`s support staff report directly to the Working Group on the work described in this calendar. The co-partisans finance, on request, the other parties through contribution agreements for their participation in the working group. The working group completes its work in a timely manner and, by the end of calendar year 2015, addresses the supervisory body that manages its own affairs.
